Meet the Staff of Dr. Massiah’s Dental Practice in NYC

NYC’s Leading African American Dentist
“Changing people’s lives through dentistry,” – Dr. Massiah

Soeurette Capellan

Sourette Capellan has found inspiration and a fulfilling career as a dental hygienist at Dr. Massiah’s dental practice. She says that she has wanted to work in health care for as long as she can remember and fortunately found her path in dentistry in college, when she graduated with honors from the University of Bridgeport’s Fones School of Dental Hygiene.

After working in several clinical dental offices, Soeurette sought to find a more intimate private practice to work for, and discovered Dr. Massiah’s dental practice in NYC. Because of her switch, she now feels that she has fulfilled her lifelong dream of being a healthcare professional. What she loves most about working at Dr. Massiah’s dental practice is that she is now able to spend more personal time and care with each of her patients by taking their blood pressure and going through their full medical history.

“I love how we do full treatments here,” Soeurette said. “I love that I get to see the progress we make in our patients and that I can take the time out to deal with their total body health, not just their teeth.”

Soeurette now lives in Van Cortlandt, New York with her husband, her baby daughter Charlize.

Della Belle Popo

Della Belle Popo is Dr. Massiah’s trusted long-term employee, having started at his office as his dental assistant and later earning a promotion to office manager. Della has been happily employed by Dr. Massiah since 2007.

Originally from St. Lucia, Della grew up in St. Croix, U.S.V.I. Like her mentor, Dr. Massiah, Della left her native country to pursue a career in dentistry. She now holds two degrees: a BA in philosophy and a Masters of Science degree in Immunology/Hematology. Della is now taking the preparatory steps that will allow her to be a dental student in the fall of 2012.

Della is passionate about her career in the dental field and stresses that her main goal as the office manager “is to make each patient who enters our practice know that we are here to help them obtain their healthiest mouth.”

Samantha Garcia

Samantha Garcia says that before anything else, even before a pair of nice shoes, she will first notice someone’s smile.

Ever since she can remember, Samantha has held a very high importance for her own, and others in her dental care. She says that she clearly recalls being a little girl and making up excuses to visit her dentist.

“I’d say that my tooth hurt or that I would need braces, even though I’ve never had braces and I didn’t get my first cavity until I was 22!” Samantha has said.

With a high regard for dental health and a desire to work in a field where she could help people, Samantha recognized her calling to work in the dental health field and set off to study at the New York City College of Technology. There she became licensed in Dental Hygiene and certified in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation in 2005.

Samantha has been a Dental Hygienist at Dr. Massiah’s dental practice in NYC since 2010, when she moved back to her hometown of the Bronx after working for several years in upstate New York. She now lives closer to her family with her two young children, Amayah and Messiah.
