Meet Dr. Massiah, African-American Dentist on the Upper West Side of New York and His Staff
NYC’s Leading African-American Dentist in New York: “Changing people’s lives through dentistry,” – Dr. Massiah
We welcome back Kisha Tompkins. Kisha has returned to fill the Treatment and Financial Coordinator role. Kisha started as Dr. Massiah’s dental assistant upon graduation from the New York School for Medical and Dental Assistants in 2009. During her brief absence from Dr. Massiah’s practice Kisha enhanced her skillset by working side by side with many dental specialists. As such don’t be surprised if you see Kisha at the front desk making your appointment and then in the operatory assisting Dr. Massiah, an esteemed dentist in the UWS of New York.
Kishas’ love for the dental profession has made her set her sights on pursuing her Hygiene degree.
In her spare time Kisha loves to be involved in the arts and spend time with her family.
Soeurette Capellan has found inspiration and a fulfilling career as a dental hygienist at Dr. Massiah’s dental practice. She says that she has wanted to work in health care for as long as she can remember and fortunately found her path in dentistry in college, when she graduated with honors from the University of Bridgeport’s Fones School of Dental Hygiene.
After working in several clinical dental offices, Soeurette sought to find a more intimate private practice to work for, and discovered Dr. Massiah’s dental practice in NYC. Because of her switch, she now feels that she has fulfilled her lifelong dream of being a healthcare professional. What she loves most about working at Dr. Massiah’s dental practice is that she is now able to spend more personal time and care with each of her patients by taking their blood pressure and going through their full medical history.
“I love how we do full treatments here,” Soeurette said. “I love that I get to see the progress we make in our patients and that I can take the time out to deal with their total body health, not just their teeth.”
Soeurette now lives in Van Cortlandt, New York with her husband, her baby daughter Charlize.
Jamillah Hyatt joined the practice in April 2016 as a Hygiene Coordinator. She works as a Scheduling Coordinator alongside Kisha to ensure that the needs of patients are met and exceeded. Though this is her first experience working within a dental practice, she is no stranger to the medical profession. Having attained a degree in Nursing in 2008 and Business Marketing degree in 1999, she believes that the health of patients is paramount, and loves learning and growing in the dental industry. When she is not taking care of patients, she is building the marketing company she started 3 years ago. In her free time she enjoys travelling and spending time with family.
Ruth started at the practice in October of 2015, as a Dental Auxiliary. Originally from the Midwest, she has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and had some background in dentistry prior to relocating to New York City. Ruth has a passion for working with patients and is considering going to dental school. In her free time she is involved with several volunteer activities including church involvement and working with housing court helping individuals who are being evicted. She also enjoys visiting museums, exploring New York City, trying new restaurants as well as yoga.
